Course description: Siddha system of Medicine, the Tamil Traditional Medicine, particing in Tamilnadu, is the oldest among the Indian Medical System such as Ayurveda and Unani, since its origin is suggested to be dates back to around 3000 B.C. siddha is nationally recognized system of Medicine and integrated into the National health delivery system. In India, the public response to Siddha is growing fast and various institutions have come up to impart knowledge in siddha science.
To learn this
vast system in total by undersstanding the human being and healthing principles
needs a scientific and systemic approach. There
is a growing demand for this traditional medical system. Therefore, our
Government of India has established a
separate department for Indian System of Medicine, Department of AYUSH
(Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha & Homeopathy) comes under the Ministry of
Health and Family Welfare is the prime body under which Central Council of
Indian Medicine (CCIM) is governing body.
Courses available:
v
B.S.M.S
(Bachelor of Siddha Medicine & Surgery) at the Bachelor level. Duration of
Course is 5 ½ years including one year Compulsory Rotatory Residential
Internship. Eligibility required to join B.S.M.S degree is a pass in HSC or
equivalent Examination with Physics, Chemistry and Biology/ Botony and Zoology.
Medium of Instruction English and Tamil and candidate should have completed 17 17
years of age at the time of admission.

The
PG Programmes are available in 2 Government Siddha Medical Colleges and in
National Institute of Siddha, tambaram, Sanatorium Duration of Course is 3
years and the degree awared is M.D (Siddha)
Career opportunities: Siddha System of Medicine provides a wide range of opportunities in the present modern world. Our Government of India conceptualizes the plan for providing good health to the rural poor people by drafting the National Rural Health Mission. Under this scheme, those who have completed B.S.M.S degree get selected to work in Primary Health Centers that are located in the rural areas.

Government of Tamilnadu has drafted new scheme as establishing Siddha Units in
ESI Hospitals and Primary Health Centres located all over Tamilnadu, Kerala
& Pondychery.

the field of digitalizing the old literatures enscripted in palm leaves
(Mnauscripts) by the way of TKDl (Traditional Knowledge Digital Library) as SRF

Siddha practitioner can start his/her own (or) work in private Siddha Hospitals
all over the Country.

can also run Siddha pharmacy af their own by the way of preparing the Siddha
Medicines in their own holistic approach.

state. They can undergo research programmes, can conduct workshops (or)
